Applications of DigFabLab Technology/Knowledge at Kendall:


The computer is an important resource for Kendall students; the world depends on creative people who can harness and direct contemporary technology. In graphic design, interior design, digital media and other programs these tools are already professionally well established; with the primary research, funding decisions, and practical workflows already setup and running well. In other programs our faculty, staff, and students need the training, support, and guidance that will both help them learn what is available - and inspire them to find innovative ways to use that technology. The Digital Fabrication Lab is Kendall's incubator for exploring how 3D computer technologies manifest in fields which are dependent on tangible 3D objects. The following is a growing list of how what we have in terms of equipment and expertise might be used in Kendall's unique academic programs:


  • In-House Research Lab/Service Bureau for Additive and Subtractive Rapid Prototyping/Fabrication
  • Advanced CAD modeling using haptic interfaces and other inputs/specialty software
  • Immersive VR projects using sound, input devices, and stereoscopic projection
  • Concept modeling and form proofing through stereoscopic projection and visualization
  • Using it as a base for a collaborative design class that would focus on representing Kendall at SIGGRAPH
